Are you sure you watch a comedy?

My friends!

I write here about comedies, new in general, but do not forget about old ones too (I mean “old” actors, famous comedians). And suddenly the following thought came to my mind: what is the comedy in general? There is a definition of a comedy as a genre:

Comedy is a genre of art, characterized by a humorous or satirical approach, as well as the type of drama, which specifically solves the effective time of conflict or struggle of antagonistic characters.

There are two types of comedies: a comedy of characters and a comedy of situation.

A comedy of situation is the comedy where events and cases are the sources of funny moments.

A comedy of characters (comedy of manners) is the comedy where the source of funny moments is the inner essence of the comic characters, their funny and ugly one-sided hyper trait or passion (defect, flaw). Very often a comedy of manners is a satirical comedy because it ridicules all those human qualities.

Which comedies do you prefer? Do you like to watch people in funny situations of do you prefer to laugh because of any personal qualities?

Tears and smiles go together here...

“Marley & Me” is a 2008 American dramedy film directed by David Frankel. The screenplay by Scott Frank and Don Roos is based on the memoir of the same title by John Grogan. The film was released in the United States and Canada on December 25, 2008 and set a record for the largest Christmas Day box office ever with $14.75 million in ticket sales.

Finally, the more or less realistic film about a pet appeared on the screens. The audience is already rather tired of sickly sweet puppet dogs which can be found at the all latest movies and cartoons. But the last straw, probably, was that silly (though it should be sweet) comedy about a rich Chihuahua.
The film of David Frankel “Marley & Me” is probably one of the few films in which a dog is shown as a truly equal friend of a man but not a shadow of the police or even worse – a rat-looked creature that serves as a living decoration on the breasts of some glamorous diva.
The incredible harmony of the genre in the movie “Marley & Me” amazes. This is not the one-sided comedy about the animal. And this is not a tragic story. It has everything, like in real life - happiness, sadness, depression and explosive joy.
And every time the dog owners do not know, when they think, whether it would be easier to get rid of him, and how long would they hold on for not to return him? This is not a dog, but just a punishment, and the house periodically turns into the dog’s battlefield with curtains, furniture and pillows. But they got used to him and they do not need any other pet.
And this is the main idea of the movie “Marley & Me” – to show viewers the dog for what he is but not what you would like to see. To show the dog as an equal member of the family rather than a living doll. And the attitude of owners is based on the individuality of this particular dog. So, Marley may be the only one, and not just a habit makes the whole family to worry about him when it becomes clear that the dog will die.

Have you watched this funny and sad movie “Marley and Me”? Probably, not only girls and women shed a few tears by the end of the film because the story ends very sadly. I think that this picture may well claim to have a place in the list of the 21st century’s the best comedy films.

Let me say hello to you!

Hi people!
What's up? I am new here and hope we'll become good friends with you! Let's share our thoughts, feelings, poits of view and dreams! It is honour to become the part of your community! I can see that there is a lot of very interesting and useful information here and I will be happy to learn it and share my information with you!

How could I miss this film before?

Do you like comedies as much as I do? Reading different information at the internet yesterday, I found the list of the best comedies of the 21st century. I admitted with satisfaction that I do not consider myself to be an expert of such a genre in vain. There were in about 30 films in that list. I must admit that I watched 15-17 of them for sure and I even remembered their plot. I do remember that I watched another 10 of them but, unfortunately, I could not remember their plot and actors. So, looking through that list, I found the name “What Happens in Vegas”. Year:2008. Actors: Diaz and Kutcher??? I have not watched that film!!! The responses were only positive, everyone admired the light plot and actors’ play. So, I had to find this film and watched it as soon as I could. What do we have? The couple of antipodes meets in the city of sins Las Vegas, drinks a lot and wakes up next morning to be married! Well, nothing special, it would be always possible to divorce if they did not have a 3 millions dollars jack pot which our main hero won yesterday. They can share this money and say good bye to each other but no! Each of them wants everything! The court makes a decision for our just married to spend a half of a year together in order to become a real family. The real battle begins between them. We become contemplators of many funny situations and events where not only our main heroes Joy and Jack take part but also their friends thanks to whom our couple went to Las Vegas in the very beginning of the film!
Well, in general I liked the film. It is easy to watch it, there are many funny moments and good actors’ play in it (Diaz and Kutcher played their roles in such a way as if they always worked in such lines). So, I’d got a charge of positive emotions for the next couple of hours. The greed of our heroes and the craving for money turned out to be their great helper: finally they understand that they need something more, not just money. What can we take for ourselves from this film? Maybe the fact that not everything is bad in our life and you can easily become a lucky beggar doing nothing? Or maybe the fact that everything good we know only after we overcome everything bad: greed, desire to have everything at once, binge unconscious? Or maybe that you need once to become another person and change all your habits and nature at least for one day in order to find a personal happiness?
